The Embassy of Japan in Singapore celebrated His Majesty Emperor Akihito’s 82nd Birthday on the 15th of December at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore. Minister for Social and Family Development His Excellency Tan Chuan-Jin, Members of Parliament Ms Tin Pei Ling and Mr Chong Kee Hiong, Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Lai Chung Han were among the approximately 670 distinguished guests who attended the event.

Food and beverage producers from Japan kindly offered their specialties at the reception. These included rice, Iwate Wagyu beef and sake from Iwate prefecture, Fukushima beef, apple and persimmon from Fukushima prefecture, sake from Ibaraki prefecture, sake from Niigata prefecture, mikan (Mandarin) and green tea from Shizuoka prefecture, mikan juice and sake from Ehime prefecture, Ban Pei Yu (Mandarin), prime tomato and strawberries from Kumamoto prefecture, bluefin tuna, yellowtail, amberjack from Kagoshima prefecture, draft beer from Kirin Beer, craft beer from Tezukuri Wakuwaku Farm Kawakita in Ishikawa prefecture, sake from Gempei Brewery in Fukui prefecture, red & white wine from Grace Winery of Chuo-Budoushu in Yamanashi prefecture and red sea bream from Tokuhiro-Suisan in Ehime prefecture. These Japanese delicacies received high praisal from the guests.
We also received continuous kind support from Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 for their Ikebana arrangements and from the National University of Singapore Koto ensemble “KotoKottoN” for their melodious Koto performance at the reception.
